Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Mom and I were out shopping today and after my score at a fabulous local consignment shop around the corner from the new cookie place that will make me gain 5lbs over this holiday, I needed some lunch. Eggs at 9am + shopping + family time mean....pizza sounds perfect! When I saw that La Pizzeria has a "You've been Yelped!" sticker, I knew it was a sign. And I was right! Yummy. It was an odd hour (3:30ish) so they weren't busy at all. I was immediately greeted and asked if I wanted dine in or take out, did I need a menu, how could they help me...Not sure if it was the manager or owner who greeted me first but everyone was nice. They have ready-to-be-heated pizza by the slice in a variety of toppings (I first thought it was going to be like Fellini's in the sense that you can order a slice of whatever you want, but here it's about 8 kinds that they heat up for you oven-perfect if you're not getting a whole pie). White pizza, mushroom and pepper, pepperoni, sausage and tomato, margherita, just cheese...I asked which was his favorite and instantly heard "Margherita!" That's what I'd been eyeing, so, sold. It was delicious (see pic)- great crust, good mozzarella, good char and a judiciously plentiful amount of basil. This is an Antico-esque (can't say it's exactly as good but it's in the same vein) kind of pizza. The main difference for me is that I got just a slice not a whole pie, so I'm guestimating after the first try and assuming a whole pizza would be even better. I also got the tiramisu to go which will have to fight vs those cookies from YesUMay for tonight's dessert...the whole dessert case looked yummy but when I asked about the tiramisu and the staff was as unhesitantly unanimous about it (it's homemade) as the margherita, well... I love good pizza and am so glad I now know about this Yelp-worthy spot! (Ps...The pasta specials today - a tagliatelle with ragu and a chicken ravioli- were enough to make me know I want to return for more than just pizza!)

This IS the best pizza in the area, hands down. My husband and I frequently take guests here and we usually just pick up the pizza if it's the two of us. We have also tried a few of their pasta dishes when we have dined-in and they are delicious. We have always had great service too! The best pizza on the menu is the prosciutto and spinach pizza. Yummy!!

I am from NY...this pizza is fair at best. I order a chicken caesar salad and it was a tiny bit of chicken thrown on a bed of lettuce and some parmesan cheese on top. The dressing was on the side and was definitely not home made. I ordered a Stromboli and it was the farthest thing from a true NY Stromboli. I knew I was in trouble when the guy asked what i wanted in it...i asked what comes in it and he said cheese...Plenty of other places that are better for take out pizza

Finding your perfect pizza joint is serious business. When I first moved to Mt. Pleasant, I knew I had to find mine. La Pizzeria is a gem. Tucked into the corner of a small plaza on Houston Northcutt, the tiny, dimly-lit restaurant is great for dine in or takeout, but I prefer taking my pizza to go as it gets a bit crowded. You can order whole pizzas or grab a slice of one of the already made pies on display. They've always got at least 5 types to choose from. While I've liked all the ones I've tried, the Margherita and Bianco pizzas are my favorite. The cheese is just,...oh it's good. Nothing beats fresh parmesan and ricotta on top of a sweet thin crusted slice of pizza. Yes, you will eat your crust. You'll eat it and you'll like it!

We had a great meal. The service was wonderful. Would visit again if in the area. Thanks.

Never had the pizza, but I've been for dinner twice now, and both times we great! I've had the bolognese and the gnocchi gorgonzola. Portions are a little small for the prize, but so, so tasty! I can't tell you how pleased I was with my meal both times! The restaurant itself is pretty small, however, so the wait can be substantial if you hit it at the wrong time. I also cannot imagine trying to fit a large group...really pretty tight space.

Ordered an 18" pizza to-go last night with shrimp, spinach, onion, garlic, broccoli, and black olives ($36 w/ tip). Since we didn't eat in the restaurant, this is more like half of a review. The staff was clear and friendly on the phone, making it quick and simple to place our order. We were quoted 25 minutes and sure enough, the pizza was ready when we got there. There was only one guest in line paying at the register ahead of me. I wasn't acknowledged until I got to the front, which wasn't a big deal, but something they could do better is smile or welcome others. It's the little things. :) The pizza...was delicious! My roommate's family is Italian and makes pizza from time to time, plus he baked pizzas at a few restaurants for years, so when he tells me to rate a pizza 5 stars, I'm impressed. Really, pizzas should be compared as cheese only and we had a lot of toppings, but I'm not being that critical. Everything tasted fresh and had amazing flavor and I was definitely digging the thin crust, which was cooked well. Would happily order from here again. Oh, last thought. I wish they had a veggie pizza, as one of us was vegetarian (err, pescatarian) and we created our own combination which is on the expensive side. Yes, they have really simple ones with no meat, but you can't make substitutions and they're lacking in toppings.

i used go here alot with a friend of mine who knows the owners. Got to eat most of the pizza and i loved all. Also the desserts are to die for. Most of the ingredients are got from italy.
(5)Elissa N.
We love La P, it has the best authentic pizza you can get in Mt. Pleasant. The pastas are typically very good and the specials are excellent as well. If you read my reviews, you know I am a wine lover and they have a nice, affordable selection of wines by the glass. A wonderful, family owned spot that feels very local but consistently delivers. The only negative, it can get a little pricey but it is worth it.

I hope you get Eddie for a server if you go to La Pizzeria. Great server, great personality, very funny, and really knowledgable about the menu. I went there with my beautiful bride and her parents and the food was fantastic. My wife and her mother ordered a margharita pizza to share and her father and I both ordered strombolis. Best stromboli I have had in years. I grew up in Philadelphia, PA and I really love strombolis because I practically grew up eating them. La Pizzeria really knows how to make stromboli. I have had a tough time finding a good stromboli here in Charleston, SC but I will become a regular at La Pizzeria just for the stromboli. The import much of their supplies directly from Milan, Italy and the ingredients are so good. 5 star worthy restaurant. No question!

Got in late to Mt Pleasant for a trip to the Yorktown the next day and was driving around with my son for a place to get dinner to bring back to the motel. He rejected pretty much everything I suggested but was able to sell him on pizza when we passed this place. I an kinda a pizza snob having grown up in NY and was expecting something Domino's-esqu, instead had one of the best pizza experiences ever. The crust was very thin but not at all burnt. I had sausage on mine that tasted homemade, was generous and very flavorful without being overpowering. What was also nice is that the pizza had a nice, complex flavor, it was brilliant. My only regret is I have to drive 5 hours to go again. So glad we did not fall for one of the tourist traps.
(5)David G.
Had dinner there twice last week. On Thursday was the first time I've been there. My wife and I enjoyed their pizza. It was terrific. Crust was done just right for me. We enjoyed our dinner so much we went back the next night for our 33rd wedding anniversary. My wife had the seafood spaghetti. It had shrimp, clams and calamari. Her description, EXCELLENT. I had one of the special, sweet potato gnocchi with ricotta cheese and shrimp. A excellent dish as well. If you see it on the specials get it. You will not be disappointed. For dessert I had the profiteroles. Very delightful, light, not to rich or heavy following our meals. If you are looking for a great Italian while at the beach put this place at the top of the list.

this is a little gem. good honest food, i few outdoor seats open on Sunday, very friendly and pleasant help, run by the owner. The name is a problem i'm sure they'd do better with a helpful name. they serve more than pizza. perhaps that's how they started and couldn't change. the seating inside is little cramped. the pasta is home made and the sauces are good. i had pappardelle with clams. well seasoned sweet little gently cooked clams. we'll be back

La pizzeria is a delightful find in the Mt. Pleasant area. We enjoyed the house salad as well as pasta with bolognese sauce. The real winner, however, was the pizza. Having tasted pizza from New Haven, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and LA, I have to say this place delivered solidly. The crust was semi-thin (thicker than NYC), chewy but with a nice flavor. The sauce was subtle with a balanced tomato flavor. The cheese had a nice texture and flavor - not your typical mozzarella but very good regardless. My only gripe is that the space is limited and might be hard to accommodate larger parties.

Kitschy little italian restaurant in a strip mall in a Charleston suburb. I've eaten here twice. Both times we had great service, and were seated right away. But neither time did I walk away excited about the food.

For all of attempts to locate the two foods I miss most from home, one would think I have the places all set, as I have lived in CHS for 5 years. Those 2 food items are pizza and bagels, not together, but as seperate meals. The common denominator? The bread, more specifically, the dough. All bagel locations never stacked up to my taste preferences, but I found some locations that when a heave duty hankering sets in, I can scramble off to. Good pizza is a bigger need than the bagel in my world. I scoured every inch of CHS soil to find a place that sells by the slice pizza and a pizza that has the characteristics I have been exposed to. As another writer pointed out (i like to read all reviews before posting, as not to be redundant) but Andolini, Your Pie, Mello Mushroom, Etc..(The literal definition of ETC is Every other place in CHS), just didn't interest me. Thankfully, I happened upon La Pizzeria. The thought of swearing off bagels and pizza is a discomforting thought. Its been a bit of time since my last visit to La Pizzeria, but it was just right. Well balanced in quantities of ingredients, thin and crisp, sauce that was sweet, but just the right flavor to keep the mozzarella and crust in balance.(Great crust and that is crucial for a good slice) I really feel that when the pizza is this good, price follows was behind in terms of overall experience.

It's 9AM and thinking about this place has me craving pizza. La Pizzeria is nothing short of fantastic. My wife and I decided to come here a few nights ago for dinner and were blown away. This place is tucked away on Houston Northcutt next to Bacco. The setting is intimate and quite honestly, could not be more perfect. We had Caesar Salad to start and ordered 10" pizzas for the both of us. My wife had the Margherita and I had the Aloha (Hawaiian). Everything was great and the service was exceptional. I do, however, have one small gripe. When we were seated, we were served Dasani bottled water without being asked. I thought it was a bit strange...Dasani bottled water? San Pellegrino is one thing...but Dasani? Anyhow, I asked the server if there was a charge for it and he informed me that it was "only a dollar." I told him that was fine but that we would stick with tap water going forward. His response...? "We don't have tap water." Kid, you're in the middle of Mount Pleasant, you have running tap water. Anyhow, be ready to pay for ANYTHING that you drink. The bottled water was a dollar but c'mon man, really? Free bread but I have to pay for my water...? Just a bit of an annoyance... Again, great spot and we'll definitely be back. Just be ready to pay for your water. : )

Pasta Sunday always occasions pasta at home or out somewhere and that somewhere happened to be La Pizzeria. It was quite busy that Sunday evening and we had to wait outside for 15 or 20 minutes but once seated service was very good. We started with a Caprese Salad, tomato, basil and Buffalo Mozzarella with a drizzle of EVOO, no complaints it was the perfect starter. My son ordered Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti and I selected the Linguine Alla Vongole Bianco. We were more than satisfied with our respective entrees, but we both had to admit that back home the Italian restaurants have a certain "je ne sais quoi" that kicks it over the top and into the end zone. Would we go back if we found our selves in the area once again most certainly as La Pizzeria does a very very good job.

About as traditional an Italian restaraunt as you will find in SC. Right down to the only water option being bottled at a hefty price. That being said the pizza here is our favorite in Charleston, and we are very picky about crust, it must be thin and crispy on the outside but is substantial enough to hold up the toppings. The pasta dishes are cooked al dente and expect to hear banter in thick accented italian as you eat. I will be back without a doubt.
(5)Bill S.
Now Im not Italian but I will say this is authenic italian cuisine. We had lasagna, spaghetti alfredo with shrimp and pizza. All 3 were great. The pizza is thin NY style and very good. I recomend ordering it extra crisp or well done. Small corner resteraunt in a strip center but well worth it.

You have probably driven past La Pizzeria in Mount Pleasant many times without knowing it's some of the best Italian food in town. La Pizzeria is tucked away in some shops off of Coleman Blvd and Houston Northcutt Blvd. But it could just as easily be in the North End of Boston. What it lacks in space it makes up for with some great food. Start off with the Antipasto della Casa or the Bruschetta di Salsiccia. Caprese salad is enough for two. Then you've got some serious decisions to make. Pasta? Sandwich? Pizza? And pace yourself to leave room for dessert. Spaghetti with marinara sauce is simple and delicious. The chicken or veal parmigiana are good if you're looking for something more carnivorous. The lasagna bolognese is my go to dish unless there's a special too good to pass up. The pizza at La Pizzeria is hands down the best pie in Charleston. It's as if they fly in the dough from the Northeast or something. The Margherita and Aloha pizzas are our favourites. There are some kid friendly options with pasta or pizza too. Service is always good whether you're the first ones there or the place is jam packed. Worth noting that they do a good take away as well. Just make a call when you're in the area. A whole pizza or some different slices are way better than the chain pizza shops. Reviewer's Note: Raising a young family in Charleston after years of living and traveling abroad. Restaurant reviews are based on at least two visits.

My husband has a service dog and when we showed up the greeted us with open arms. We sat outside and the brought out water and dog treats for our pup. They really made us feel at home. The food was amazing good portion size and tasted great. We can not wait to go back. It really is a little hidden gem!
(5)Alex N.
Ok, while the pizza was absolutely amazing, i have more complaints than i have positive remarks. The space was cramped, the service was shotty, and they only serve bottled beverages so no refills on anything. So the 3 stars comes from the pizza. If you come here expecting to be disappointed in both venue and service then im sure it will be absolutely perfect.

I stumbled on this place last year when I was hungry after a long drive to the beach. I was warmly greeted by the staff upon entering. I ordered to go a perfect thin crust, freshly made margherita pizza, beet salad and a yummy slice of cheesecake. While I waited I enjoy a quality glass of Pinot noir. This place is my go-to spot at last 1x during every visit I take when on the island...which is often. I just wish the were open during lunch hours.

Italy is in Mt. Pleasant!! Nothing else in the tro-county area even comes close to the authenticity of the little jewel of a place. Hidden in the corner with a HUGE punch! The slices are simply Delicioso!! Pasta is outstanding and the desserts.. Well they are simply imponente!! If you want authentic Italian..and your in the charleston/mt. Pleasant area.. This is your place!!

I had the pleasure of having dinner with three friends from Italy at La Pizzeria, so this review is based on their authentic opinion - and Italians are very strict when it comes to their food. The location is decent, enough parking outside, cozy interior. Overall this place feels rather cramped however. We were a total of four people and two tables had to be moved together to make space for our medium sized (which is very large) pizzas. So this is not a place to go with a bigger crowd. Consequently, we saw mostly couples. Although the owner and her son are authentic Italians, the waiters are all Americans. This was somewhat funny as my Italian friends shook their heads several times in a disappointed manner when our waiter (who looked like a lumberjack) told them about the different sorts of gelato (they did not approve) and had to explain to them that the limoncello they offered was without alcohol (this really hurt my Italian friends, they told me you would go to prison for this in Italy). While our waiter was very nice, he was also a bit negligent; he did not stop by too often but rather walked past us. It also took some time to get the checks. Service overall was average. My Italian friends gave mixed reviews regarding the pizza. Some they liked (the prosciutto), most were very average to them. It was fascinating to watch them taste small mistakes in an authentic Italian pizza: there shouldn't be any garlic, there needs to be more mozzarella, ... I liked my prosciutto pizza, but they opened my eyes to the numerous things that went wrong for it to be authentic Italian pizza. Although my friends were actually in the mood for dessert, the offered choices did not convince them, so we opted for espresso. This took some time again. My friends love espresso (but they only trust their nespresso machine, inside scoop) but were very disappointed. They simultaneously stated that the machine definitely should be cleaned. And they were right, the espresso was very bitter (not like it should be bitter) and without a clear soul. Again not impressed. Overall, my Italien friends rated this place as very average and I concur, as the mix of mediocre food and service warrants only 3 stars. On a sidenote, if I were an authentic Italian running a restaurant in South Carolina and three very nice Italian people would come into my restaurant on a not too busy night and delightedly greet me in Italian, I would probably give them a warmer welcome and maybe a little authentic treat in between to show them they're welcome.

Took a day trip down to Charleston and after spending the day down there we were all getting hungry. After driving around we ended up in Mt. Pleasant. We found the place on the trusty Yelp app. When we arrived we were promptly seated, we choose to sit outside. Our waiter kept bringing us this amazing house baked bread. Their garlic knots were delicious. We got the Sicilian, and this thing was huge. We got the Tutta Carne (and of course we added bacon to it). The pizza took about 30 minutes to arrive. The pizza was delicious. However, I wasn't a fan of the crust though, just was too thick for my taste, still very good. The price was pretty good, and we left full and had about half the pizza to take back home with us. We will be back.

After wandering around downtown Charleston all day, my husband and I were hankering for a nice warm slice (or 2, or 3) of pizza. We were having trouble finding a place that looked good downtown, so we decided to head back to where our Hotel was over in Mt Pleasant to see if there might be something good in that neighborhood. We found La Pizzeria thanks to Google and Yelp and decided to give it a try! This place is in a very unassuming shopping plaza, tucked near the corner, so it was a little difficult to find especially because the sign seemed to be a bit more dim than any of the other businesses in the strip. Just a warning for any other confused tourists :) Inside the restaurant are tables right by where they prepare the food, and then a much larger dining area as you go towards the back. The larger dining area was PACKED, so we sat towards the front where we could watch the employees prepare the food. No complaints. We read on a chalk board posted above the tables that most of the restaurant's ingredients are homemade and/or shipped directly from Italy. Cool! We received some tasty bread to dip in oil as we waited for our food. Carbalicious. We ordered a medium (16 inch) pizza since my husband is a freak of nature who can put away unlimited amounts of pizza and still maintain a slim figure. I was happy with one and a half slices (they're big slices!) and his verocious appetite was happy with the other 4 and a half. If you have more of a normal appetite, a 12 inch would probably do you just fine. I forgot the name of our pizza but it had fresh sausage, peppers and onions and it was very good. I was too stuffed to eat any more but wanted to try one of the desserts since they receive such great reviews here on Yelp, so we ordered a piece of cake to-go. We wound up splitting it at our Hotel room a few hours later and it was very good! A little expensive at $5, but delicious. My only complaints about La Pizzeria would be that they don't seem to have a soda fountain set up, so your drinks come in a plastic bottle and there are definitely no free refills. Kind of a bummer for me as I always get water and don't usually have to pay for it. Also, the price is pretty steep as far as pizza goes, but I do understand that the freshness of the ingredients are probably the reason behind this so I can't dock points. Overall, if we are ever back in the area and craving some Pizza Pie, we would probably happily come back to La Pizzeria!

We found this place by mistake, we were looking for another restaurant but we couldn't be happier with this find. The food was Great! The service Great too! And the desserts Amazing! The space is cozy! Everything is fresh and homemade. So sad that we don't have a place like this close to home.
(5)Michael T.
Another visit required another update! The staff are always friendly and attentive, the slices to go really hit the spot! Fresh ingredients, traditional handmade pies, all good!

I want to start this review off by saying have never had this happen at a restaurant or any business for that matter. I called to order pizza takeout because we have been to this place several times dining in and had nothing but good experiences. Apparently not the same service I was used to when the guy on the phone basically told me I was lying about them making a special (leaving bacon off and adding jalapeños) pizza before without charging me. He explained the same thing I had been told before about integrity of the recipe to which I replied I understand but we don't eat pork. After going back and forth for several minutes I placed an order and paid the extra fees to have it the way I wanted. Upon pickup the manager went over the explanation with my wife about recipe integrity and it was then the owner spoke up and said the next time you pull something like that you will wait 2-3 hrs for your pizza. It took all I had to not go back inside and get an explanation for this rude comment. I was even more shocked that after we got the pizza home there was bacon on the pizza. After all the discussion and explanation I called back to an apology and the promise that they would remake right away. I made sure to hear out employee on what exactly happened to which he tried to defend the owner and gave excuses. I get it that he is your boss but I will never visit this place again due to poor customer service. I was talking with several others about this experience who had similar issues with wanting minor changes to their pizza. I understand that each business has the right to run it however they see fit but there is no reason my wife or myself should've ever been treated this way. There are so many better ways to handle the situation that would've never escalated to me taking my time to writing this review. The whole experience was rude and uncalled for!! I am always aware of how it is on the other side having worked in the service industry but can't stand for arrogance and bad customer service we received.
(1)Lindsey J.
I love this place. The food is an 8/10 but the staff is really what takes it over the top for me! They somehow many to make you feel like you're the only one in the restaurant even when it's packed. It feels like everyone of the employees is a team player to make sure ever diner has an excellent experience. One weird thing: you have to pay for water...not offered on tap.
(4)Scotty C.
I frequent La Pizzeria whenever possible. To be honest I have never tried any of their entree's because the pizza is so good I can't resist. I swear I will try them and get back to you but, for now lets talk pizza. I am from Boston originally and have been in the SC since 04'. If you love northern Italian style pizza (thin crispy crust) then you will love it here. The best Pizza I have had in the south PERIOD. I have tried many but La Pizzeria takes the "Pie?". Anyway... I think the high quality EVOO is what brings out that flavor... who knows? It's all delicious! Tons of ingredients are imported from Italy. They are the real deal. Great people who care about service and have amazing food. My favorite pizza there is prob the tuta carne (meat lovers) but, I recently had the prosciutto pizza (prosciutto, spinach leaves, and parmesan with red sauce and mozzarella). Never seen prosciutto on a pizza like this. It was so thin and just layered all over the pizza. Very generous with the toppings which makes the price more than worth it. Dessert case is tough to walk by without picking something out. Tiramisu is fantastic! Also one of the only places that do slices. Keep it up La Pizzeria.
(5)Nicole N.
The pizza is ok (nothing compares to DeSano Pizza downtown). The service sucked. Waaaaaay overpriced. The dessert is very good and very pricy. $20 for a tiny plate of pasta!! My salad was served in a plastic dish. I am authentic Italian, this place comes closer than most places in the Charleston area to real Italian food, but still very Americanized. Not great. Do not recommend.

Tonight was the night I was to see Pacific Rim Job - a movie about Iron Man fighting Godzilla in Hong Kong. But the Cinnebar has food not even fit for the homeless, so pizza was on the menu because we all need a real strong Monday morning bowel movement sometimes. I walked into LP and was immediately told they were full, but was offered an outside seat. Fine, I have a movie to catch anyway. Our server came to the table and was immediately assaulted with orders to get our pizza out in time for us to catch the movie because it was his fault we weren't responsible enough to allot ourselves enough time. Instead of rising to the occasion, because the customer is always right, he acted like we had just collectively shoved our fingers up his ass and looked at the sky like he was constipated before telling us he'd try. Or maybe that was just his fantasy. I mean, we all are very handsome. After waiting forever for our pizza, it came out in all its glory. We had the sausage and artichoke one with the funny name. The pizza was actually great absent the obscene amount of water on it. I mean, damn, the center of it was like the pacific ocean. Sadly, I actually think it's the best I have had in Charleston, but I have not been to EVO because of its location. Everyone knows you must never go to North Charleston after 5pm. The 3 stars LP receives is a product of the service. I mean, the customer IS always right, even when they were the ones being irresponsible. I give no stars for the pizza because, again, this place is called LA PIZZERIA. Imagine what a joke it would be if the pizza was bad? It's like naming a place Fish and having horrible fish. Then again, it would be a joke I'd find hilarious...

Thanks Yelp, you did not leave me astray! When plans changed and I ended up in Mount Pleasant, I turned to you to find a dinner place. This place is good, easy, and in a simple location. We actually went in and thought there was no more seating so were going to order something to go, but alas they bought out the room next to them! You still pay at the counter, nothing fancy. We got the caprese salad, a bit mushy of tomatoes. I got the gorgonzola gnocci. [Sidenote: I am OBSESSED with this from Trader Joe's] and it was delicious. My mom ordered the "special" but they didn't have it so they gave her cheese raviolis and charged it the special price....whaaa? It was supposed to be like 12 for the cheese raviolis and the special had chicken etc in the raviolis? What?? I also got some weird pear nectar drink in a little can. That was exciting. I would say this is 4 star simple food, but they shouldn't have charged us the special price for cheese raviolis....

Excellent pizza. It's not on par with New Haven pizza (Pepe's, Sally's, Zuppardi's) or Via Napoli at Epcot. Reminded me of Brick Oven Pizza on Bridgeport / Fairfield line. On par with New York pizza (Lombardi's).
(4)Jon M.
The pizza is good and the staff friendly. I got the pizza to go, and didn't look at it until I got home. If what I got was actually the "Brooklyn Bridge", which is supposed to be double pepperoni, then we have different ideas of how much pepperoni belongs on a pizza. That was my only complaint. I'll be going back.

Best pizza around! The real deal, not chain style pizza. Wonderful family that runs the place and fantastic intimate atmosphere. One of my favorite restaurants in Charleston.

As Ind R. observes, the Italian issuing from La Pizzeria's tiny strip mall kitchen is something you could get used to hearing. The place feels authentically European in that it's tiny and crowded with tables and knick-knacks. It has the cobbled-together feel of a favorite local diner where the staff personally greets their regulars. Unfortunately, the service was terrible (it took 10 minutes for us to get a menu), and the food was mostly mediocre. The pomodoro pizza (basil, tomato, mozzarella) wasn't bad, but the crust required serious gnawing. My companions said the calzones were pretty bad, the marinara inexcusably sweet and unappetizing. Still, I'll be back some time to try the pasta specials (the gnocchi in particular sounds yummy) and to sample what's on offer by the slice.

Edit: La Pizzeria is under new management. Their food was pretty inconsistent with the old management, sometimes it was the best pizza I had ever tasted, sometimes it was mediocre and soggy. I have yet to try it under the new guard. I have found my pizzeria in Mt Pleasant. I've tried lots of pizza and I've been searching the Charleston area; before tonight I had found a lot of decent to good pizza places. This is far and away the best pizza I've eaten in a long time. The crust is crispy and just the right thinness. The sauce is light and tasty. The cheese is high quality and the toppings were delicious (deep-fried squares of breaded eggplant were awesome). The menu is great too. The have a big variety of types of pizzas (including a traditional margarita, a Sicilian, and a traditional thin Sicilian) plus nice toppings. Their prices are good and they have a good selection of things other than pizza as well. I like Andolini's, Vincent's, Orlando's, and Brixx, but this pizza is so much better than all of theirs. The inside is small with just a few tables and the pizza counter. They also have a small screened-in area outside. The weather is perfect for it right now. The owner is the real deal too. Eating my pizza and sipping my San Pellegrino Limonata I overheard him speaking to a friend, sometimes with a strong Northern accent and sometimes in Italian. I'm definitely going back!

Best NY style pizza anywhere in Charleston county, period.

We've ordered pizza from La Pizzeria in Mt. Pleasant a few times, it's good, not great, but an easy solution to dinner some nights. We've also only eaten there once and I am happy to say that it was terrific. Great service, food was served very quickly (7 minutes), and a team effort. When we asked our server, "Eddie" for our bill he told us, "You're table #10, and can go to the register to cash out." Come to find out that the owner is the only one that handles any/all cash and the servers pool their tips, hence the teamwork, I guess. After a great visit with relatives over the Thanksgiving holidays we decided that we were done with turkey and want to get a quick bite to eat - why, La Pizzeria, of course. The menu is varied and they offer nightly specials. Eddie suggested the seafood risotto which I opted for versus the Veal Marsala. Not the best choice. My husband ordered the Osso Bucco ravioli, which he has had before and it did not disappoint. When my risotto was delivered I asked Eddie for some grated parmesan cheese. He harangued me about my request. He actually said that the owner would be "insulted" if he gave it to me. I said, "What about personal preference?" He begrudgingly brought it to me. Unfortunetly the risotto, to me, was very under cooked. When Eddie stopped by I merely suggested that he might not recommend it to others. He asked me if I wanted something else, and I declined. As we began to eat our meal the owner appeared out of nowhere crouched down next to our table. If ever there was an "in your face moment", this was it. She was about an eyelash away from me. I've worked my entire career in a very male dominated industry. I consider myself somewhat of a tough cookie. There's not much that rattles me or gets under my skin. I am invigorated by a challenge and have been calm in many a tough confrontation. But the fact that the owner was so in my face questioning me about not whole-heartedly enjoying my dinner, intimidated the snot out of me and I found myself not saying but a few words. "This is how we cook it in Italy," she explained. By now I felt the stares of the other patrons upon me. "I'm OK", I said. "If you'd like me to take it back to the kitchen and put it back in the pan and cook it again, I can." She added. "But this is how we cook it in Italy." Undercooked, I contemplated? I humbly moved my risotto around my plate picking out some of the seafood, but avoiding the rest. It was bad. I don't think I even looked up from the table for fear of another one on one with the owner. We never saw Eddie again. He probably got the crap kicked out of him from bringing me the grated cheese. Having been a part owner of a restaurant chain I understand the pride you have in your products and establishment, but what happened to the customer always being right?

First time ever I've been to a restaurant that refuses to serve you tap water with your meal. They have an explanation for it (which I don't completely buy), but still...very strange.
(2)Bill M.
They had me at Buona Sera. Using more Italian than English when addressing the staff, the woman that greeted me was running the show and it seems to be a top notch program. I've only had the Margherita Pizza, but based on the feel of the place and the taste of that pie, I'll be back. This is the best pizza I've had in the area so far. One note, on takeout, don't arrive late to pick up your pie. Mine was nearly cold (reheated nicely in the oven). I didn't see the classic method of keeping the pizzas warm on the top of the ovens.
(5)Andrew W.
La Pizzeria has become a go-to pizza/italian place for me in Mt. Pleasant. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. I haven't had a bad meal yet. Pizza is highly recommended and the specials are always tasty too.
(4)Kathryn H.
I worked a summer in Sicily and have not had REAL Italian food since then... UNTIL... I found La Pizzeria! I teared up-- tears of joy-- while eating at La Pizzeria the first time! My husband and I eat here nearly every week now. (We are also non-dairy eaters and they honor such special requests!) Among the BEST restaurants in all of the Charleston area. Thank you for falling in love with Charleston, Laura, and for bringing a bit of Italy here with you!!
(5)Sylvan F.
Simply outstanding. We ordered garlic knots to start and they were fantastic and oozing with garlic butter. We order a pizza and the nightly special of lobster ravioli. Both were absolutely great and we finished with some very authentic tiramisu. Our server Tim was top of the line.

I am giving La Pizzeria 2 stars because the place smells so damn good, there must be something on the menu that is amazing. Sadly I did not order that item. I ordered a pizza for pickup. I was told it would be 20-30 minutes, which was fine by me, and I promptly showed up 30 minutes after I hung up the phone. Once I arrived, the chaos began. Staff was confused, and the man at the register (who I think was the owner) did not have a clue what he was doing. He told me my pizza was the next one out of the oven. Yet, 30 minutes after I arrived and over an hour after I placed my order, my pizza finally came out, and somehow it was undercooked and a bit doughy. So I am sure that my pizza had not even gone in the oven until after I showed up. As far as the taste goes, it was a bit doughy, the sausage was grainy, and they barely had any sauce on the pizza. It was like eating cheesy bread with a hint of pizza sauce. Again, the place smelled so good, I almost want to go back again, but I doubt I will.

3 1/2 stars. Can't believe it's taken me this long to go here! Had the penne marinara which was huge portion and tasty. My fiance got the veal saltambuca and said it was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Reasonable prices. Will definitely go back and try their pizza! Oh, and recent change I hear, they don't accept AMEX. JFYI.

This is one of, if not the best, restaurant in all of SC. Tucked away in a low key, small strip mall, this place may not be luxurious and in fact the first time I walked in, I walked right back out. To frequent this restaurant however, is to love it. The staff, service, food selections, quality and value are second to none in the area. They have plenty of reasonably priced, great selections on the menu, so you won't have to strain your budget or brain making a selection or be disappointed with what you ordered. Nor will you be waiting a lifetime for your food, even when the place is packed. Frequented by the locals and operated by a husband and wife duo from Italy that knows how to cook they make their food fresh using the ingredients imported from Italy. You can eat at a fancier or higher priced Italian restaurant downtown or in the surrounding area, but you won't find more consistently good pizza, salads, pasta dishes and desserts. If you have a passion for a great meal and don't know where to eat in the area, this is the type of place you wish someone would steer you towards. I went with a small group of friends and having recently come back from a vacation that included Rome, I was missing Italian food. La Pizzeria did not disappoint. The ingredients are fresh and the food tastes homemade. I totally agree with Yelper Jim - our experience was also like dining at an Italian friend's house. The woman who runs the restaurant is super nice and hilarious. Definitely going back when I'm in town again.
(4)Denise And Michael C.
The food here is to die for...the only down side is that the tables are packed in and it sometimes is a bit loud. The restaurant is so popular, every table is usually full. I think they just need a new location with more room. However, nothing keeps us from coming back since every meal is great!
(4)Dano M.
How can pizza and veal get a 5 star? That is impossible....This place is great......I've only eaten here about 100 times though....A corner of Little Italy in Mount Pleasant with Bacco only a few doors away...Why go anywhere else? La Pizzeria is spectacular.
(4)James J.
Great pizza, great folks working there. This is real pizza, don't go here looking for chain restaurant-style pseudo food. Probably the best pizza in the area? Carry on.
(4)Charles W.
Went after checking yelp while in town for a half marathon. The home made pasta is awesome, and the pizza is good if not spectacular. Thumbs up.
(4)Ind R.
The accent alone is worth the trip. Italy via New Jersey... (if I had to guess) I ordered two slices of a caprese style pizza. The first was perfection. Juicy slices of tomato, fresh basil, perfect sauce. The second was dry, with an unpleasant vinegar taste. My date was completely disappointed by the quality of the meat in the chicken parmesan. Hopefully they were having a bad night, because this is a place you'll want to love.

After a week on Hilton Head and 3 days in Charleston, we were longing for something other than seafood. During a long drive to explore the local area, we spotted an Italian restaurant just off the highway and some good Italian fare appealed to us at the moment. Alas, it was closed because it was Monday. But, as luck would have it, we spotted La Pizzeria tucked in the corner of the small strip mall. It was a little deceiving. We thought it was just a pizza joint but, oh no, it was much more. Yes, they had pizza but they also had pastas, risotto, gnocchi, sandwiches, seafood, veal and most of the classic Italian dishes. We decided to have a small pizza, a Caprese Salad and a Seafood Spaghetti w/Marinara Sauce. It was all very good. The pizza was a very thin crust and very similar to what we had in Northern Italy. The Caprese salad was made with ripe tomatoes and an excellent Mozarella Cheese and the olive oil was first rate! The seafood pasta was also wonderful with al dente pasta and a very nice Marinara that I identified as also a Northern style - not the bright red, spicy "in your face" style of the South. The people are just out of this world. We sat and talked to the owners for about an hour and it was like dining at a friends place. The olive oil was some of the best I have ever had. I wiped up every bit of it off the Caprese Salad plate using the excellent, home made Italian bread. I only wished that we had found this place earlier in our travels. If we come back to this area, we're, definitely, coming back here as this place is a "winner!" As it was, this was a great way to end a wonderful 10+ days in this area. Jim

The best pizza in Charleston. Tiny little place, run by a friendly family. Wonderful food and service. Can't do wrong with it!
(5)C T.
Nowhere close to real NY style pizza. Try Vincents instead or a myriad of other pizza joints. Waste of money.
(1)Lowell D.
Maybe the most authentic Italian in Mount Pleasant? I had a pizza and it was quite tasty. My wife had the fettucine and it was good. Yes you have to pay up front to the Italian owner woman, but that's the deal with this place. She wants to micro manage all the money. Nothing wrong with that I guess. I would go back here and have some more pizza or try some sandwiches.
(4)Meg D.
Great food and good prices. Go there for lunch on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays but at dinner the place is usually a little too crowded. The female owner comes on a bit strong but other than that the staff is nice. The desserts in the dessert case are amazing and the pizza is wonderful. The fettuccine Alfredo wasn't my favorite but the homemade bread was excellent!

Just found this place today, and the crew that work there are incredibly nice and helpful! The pizza by far is the best I have had in CHS. Tried, Andolinis, Mellow Mushroom and a few others but I this place will Be my new regular. It's not Lombardi's but in SC it's by far the best and the service makes it that much more. FYI I had the Margarita and the hubby's had Pepperoni, Black Olive and Onion, which are caramelized. I also had the Cream Puff Duo, one vanilla and chocolate and yes it's sublime.

New to Charleston and really wanted some pizza after a day of riding in a U-Haul. Parents found La Pizzeria on Yelp and I decided to write a review from a kid's perspective. I liked it over all. La Pizzeria is located at the corner of Houston Northcutt Boulevard and Coleman Boulevard in a small strip mall on Mt. Pleasant. I ordered the Brooklyn Bridge Pizza--basically a double pepperoni pizza. The pizza was fresh and delicious but it came out very hot from the oven. Fold it over to prevent burning your mouth. The no tap water policy is pretty ridiculous. Our waiter was nice--he was a musician, a recent graduate from Charleston's Academic Magnet High School, and an expert on coffee. Even though pizza is a kid favorite, the restaurant was not overly kid friendly. There was not a kid's menu and there was nothing to draw on or with while waiting on your food. The restaurant was also pretty crowded and the tables were very close together. Even with the big crowd, I did not see many kids there.
(3)Christian B.
So apparently Charleston has crappy pizza. This is what my folks tell me at least. Which is why they were so excited to stumble upon this place, run by a family from Boston. The pizza is pretty decent, but I would prefer a heartier sauce. It was a little thin and didn't seem to be much more than tomatoes. The crust and toppings, however, were good. I also tried the sausage stuffed chicken and the lasagna, both of which where better-than-average. All in all, a good meal, but not a great one (my parents hyped the place a bit too much, I think). A final note: I didn't have any of the desserts in the case, but they did look worth saving room for.
(3)Joel C.
My favorite pizza in Mt. Pleasant. They have a good selection and the ingredents are very fresh. This not pizza that is drowning in crappy tomato sauce. The crust is a wonderful hand-tossed crust. This is a true mom-and-pop place and is highly recommended if you want real pizza and not greasy crap pizza.
(5)Dorn M.
Great little spot. The garlic knots will tell everyone you meet (for the rest of the day) where you ate today. Pizza by the slice or by the pie. A small little shop with friendly folks. The Sicilian slices are excellent without being too dough like you find in other places. Tommy V's review was what got me here on an uncrowded Monday night. I'm looking forward to trying their Heros. NOTE: La Pizzeria is under new management and they are doing an excellent job. Go, eat in and enjoy !
(4)Andi E.
Went for lunch with a friend on Wednesday. We shared the Caprese Pizza and the Cheese Ravioli with Pink Sauce and Artichokes. Both were really delicious. IMO, the ravioli was the clear winner. I loved that the guys were not only friendly, but they got our food out to us quickly and one of them was happy to come over and kill the COCKROACH THAT CRAWLED UP NEXT TO ME WHILE DINING. Apparently, he didn't know it was a table for TWO, not three. Other than the Roach, we were good to go! Next time, will definitely try their delicious desserts!
(4)Kane S.
Absolutely the best pizza in my life. All of the ingrediemts are imported from Italia, they even go so far as to list what town the ingredients came from.. And the owners are passionate about the pizza and will make sure it is to your satisfaction.

(4)Lauton S.

(3)Ursula H.

(4)Lindsey J.

(4)Nicole N.
(2)Andrew W.

(4)Bridget S.
Yummy!!

Simply outstanding. We ordered garlic knots to start and they were fantastic and oozing with garlic butter. We order a pizza and the nightly special of lobster ravioli. Both were absolutely great and we finished with some very authentic tiramisu. Our server Tim was top of the line.

JFYI.
(3)Justin R.

(5)Paul C.
If you find this review helpful click on the: useful, funny or cool rating below or compliment and follow by clicking on the top right.

Carry on.

(4)Tommy V.

(5)Whitney K.
(5)Andi E.
(5)Meg D.
(3)nichole m.

(4)Lindsey J.

(5)B.J. K.
(5)Patty M.
We had a great meal. The service was wonderful. Would visit again if in the area. Thanks.
(5)Liz D.

(5)Evelyn E.
i used go here alot with a friend of mine who knows the owners.
(4)Jason A.
(2)Sean C.

(3)Sylvan F.
Simply outstanding. We ordered garlic knots to start and they were fantastic and oozing with garlic butter. We order a pizza and the nightly special of lobster ravioli. Both were absolutely great and we finished with some very authentic tiramisu. Our server Tim was top of the line.
(5)Morgan S.
JFYI.
(3)James J.
(3)Beth C.
(3)Patrick M.
(4)Nicole N.
(2)Andrew W.

(4)Bridget S.
Yummy!!

(4)Andrew B.
this is a little gem. good honest food, i few outdoor seats open on Sunday, very friendly and pleasant help, run by the owner. The name is a problem i'm sure they'd do better with a helpful name. they serve more than pizza. perhaps that's how they started and couldn't change. the seating inside is little cramped. the pasta is home made and the sauces are good. i had pappardelle with clams. well seasoned sweet little gently cooked clams. we'll be back
(4)C H.

The food here is to die for...the only down side is that the tables are packed in and it sometimes is a bit loud. The restaurant is so popular, every table is usually full. I think they just need a new location with more room. However, nothing keeps us from coming back since every meal is great!

How can pizza and veal get a 5 star? That is impossible....This place is great......I've only eaten here about 100 times though....A corner of Little Italy in Mount Pleasant with Bacco only a few doors away...Why go anywhere else? La Pizzeria is spectacular.

Nowhere close to real NY style pizza. Try Vincents instead or a myriad of other pizza joints. Waste of money.

Absolutely the best pizza in my life. All of the ingrediemts are imported from Italia, they even go so far as to list what town the ingredients came from.. And the owners are passionate about the pizza and will make sure it is to your satisfaction.
